I just finished reading Tim Tebow's book Through My Eyes. First, it's a great book and a good read. For myself, there are a number of key take aways. Tim was blessed with the opportunity to grow up in the arms of a family that made it a life's work to "see the potential" in others. Their medium was their faith, and through this they modeled the ideology of "bringing others to greatness". Inseperable from the strength of their message was the fact that they sought to walk the talk at all times and in all ways. The message that Tim projects to the world is one that has strong roots in faith and family.
In addition to Tim's faith is his dedication to what has evolved to his calling, and his purpose. As I read this book I was reminded of the stories shared in the book Outliers, written by Malcolm Gladwell. In which Mr. Galdwell outlines how some of the brightest and best achieved their success. Tim Tebow, like the subjects in Outliers, has been blessed - this alignment of opportunity coupled with natural talent have created "an optimum environment". What I find most fascinating about Tim's story and those shared in Outliers is that these stories are the exceptions and not the rule. Why can't more people have the advantage of an optimum environment? For that matter, as gifts and talents allow, why can't EVERYONE have the advantage of an optimum environment?
This "what if" may seem unrealistic, at first, but so did man's being able to fly, or someone on one side of the world being able to have a live conversation with someone on the other side of the world, or a choir of hundreds of people being able to join voices and make amazing music without every having to leave home (Eric Whitacre: http://youtu.be/D7o7BrlbaDs).
Like Tim, I beleive that you start with the vision and where you are, today, and ask yourself, "what can I do, today, to make a difference and to move us one step closer to this vision?" You set goals, you "exercise" your skills and talents in preparation for what you KNOW is coming. You commit, and recommit, however often you need, to the power of : purpose, passion, BELIEVING heart and soul, focused action, and persistence, COUPLED WITH talent. Most importanty you embrace that this vision for the future is an investment in something much bigger and timeless than you and so you loose yourself to find yourself in the service of others on the road to a life of purpose.
